This page is from a storm chaser who rode out Katrina in Kenner, but drove around through Metairie, Kenner, and Downtown NOLA throughout the duration of the storm. Hours of unedited footage of him driving around the city. I have to admit this is some of the craziest footage around. And just shows how we forgot how bad it actually was here. Isaac and Gustav just were not even close. When you have the time go through these videos.
The city got sustained category 2 winds from the western eyewall. Those type of winds are nothing to mess around with. Just imagining that if she hadn't turning north prior to landfall and she hadn't ingested the dry air, a lot of us on the south shore probably wouldn't be sitting where we are right now.
Some of the storm surge video from the Mississippi Gulf Coast is just crazy. They got worst case scenario with a category 5 storm surge racing inland.
People look at me crazy when I tell them that Nola lucked out with Katrina going up to the east of the city, had she gone over or just west of the city it would had been probably at least triple the damage.

As terrible as it was NOLA dodged a bullet....gotta say these guys risked their lives to get this footage but kudos to them would make a great documentary on a event no one will ever forget.loved the way there was no talking in it just rain and the roar of the winds......also the storm surge video would make a great public safety film but even then it still wouldn't convince a few jokers to leave a hurricane warning areas coast.

SKYSUMMIT: I'm thinking this hurricane season will keep us a little busy. Nothing scientific, but just the idea that it really hasn't been hyped that much.

PinkFreud: No offense to whomever keeps changing the look of this forum, but this white theme is driving me crazy. What happened to the nice blues and grays?

coffeecups: That 'some rain on Friday' became a tornado about 3 miles away (as the crow flies). What a surprise! Glad I didn't have any flooding!
