Katrina was no doubt THE most devastating weather event to occur along the gulf coast in recent times. But because of it, I discovered many of you on the old WWL site and for that I'm eternally grateful.
I posted something along these lines in the shoutbox a few weeks ago, but it bears repeating:
I've since spent the past 9 years tracking tropical systems (and a few ice/snow events) with you folks. I am so eternally grateful to your patience in answering my dumb questions, your humor when our eyeballs are shot from watching every little wobble, and your expertise when you point out trends in models before they are officially acknowledged by authorities.
Because of you, I had rooms booked well in advance every time my parish called for an evacuation (because St. Charles evacuates early and often ;)), including before Katrina. My family always asks me about storms, even my husband will ask me, "What are your weather guys saying on the forum?"
Anyway, I just had to say a heartfelt thank you and a reminder to folks that if you haven't yet donated to GulfCoastWx.com, DO IT to keep this board up and running.
I am eternally gratefull for the members of the old WWL Forum! Because of the forum and the good information, we evacuated that Sat afternoon, avoiding all the traffic. I had with me- 2 of my grown children, a daughter In law, 3 granddaughters and our dog! I joined this board when it was first formed and have told many others about it. I thank all of you for the good information over the years.. this is the first place (and many times the only place) I turn to when there is a storm around! I have donated to this board and will continue to support it. Thanks to all of you for all that you do to keep us informed and safe! (Hope to see everyone at a picnic soon!)

coffeecups: Came home to Harvey from Slidell. Had a little rain here and there. There was no rain in Slidell when I left at 3:30pm. While in NO EAST, I saw where it looked like it was storming around Covington going towards Slidell. Wet but no rain when I got home

coffeecups: ps I guess the memory of that snow is probably the only winter that I will get.
Mar 25, 2017 7:16:52 GMT -6
coffeecups: Somewhere around 1956 and 1958 it snowed so much that I thought I was in a blizzard. Of course I was only a child then, but the memory of that has NOT been met or surpassed.
