About this time a decade ago, Hurricane Ivan was about 12-13 hours away from making landfall. During the afternoon of the 15th, it looked as though Ivan would make a direct hit on Mobile and Mobile County. Needless to say, it was a nerve-racking day.

About this time on September 15th, a slightly east motion was starting to be recognized. This made a difference in the eventual track. Instead of making a direct hit on Dauphin Island and Mobile, the eye would eventually move ashore on Gulf Shores.

Not trying to have a conversation with myself or anything........lol
About the time of this post, Ivan was probably less than two hours away from its landfall. I remember we had some friends over that lived basically in the same neighborhood. We also had my uncle from Pensacola who came over and helped boarded up and thinking he was headed in the area that might have gotten some of the worst. As it was, he made the right call as his area got slammed.
I do remember at this time getting into a closet in hopes of getting some sleep. For one thing, those friends of mine had two grown children. Their son (who tragically lost his life in a wreck later that year) stayed home and their daughter was at the hospital she worked at, and they both called their parents several times that night and early morning. Drove me nuts! I went into that closet in part of hoping to escape those calls as much as anything! (rofl)
I was at a conference in downtown New Orleans which was shortened. We left at 1:15 pm headed back here to Baton Rouge. Traffic on I-10 was gridlocked as was the West Bank/Highway 90 and 61. We decided that it might be less traffic to go to Slidell. We did not get to Slidell until around 5:30 pm. Only Supreme gas was available. Went via Highway 90 to Covington/Hammond. Did not get to Baton Rouge until 11:30 pm.

I was living in Dothan, AL when Ivan hit. We had tropical storm force winds there, with maybe a couple gusts to hurricane force in the stronger bands. Once the winds got below 40mph, it was down to the coast I went to begin communication restoration.

coffeecups: Came home to Harvey from Slidell. Had a little rain here and there. There was no rain in Slidell when I left at 3:30pm. While in NO EAST, I saw where it looked like it was storming around Covington going towards Slidell. Wet but no rain when I got home
